The Big Island of Hawaii is the biggest island of the Hawaiian Islands.  It is also the youngest island among the group.  The island offers various natural habitats and sceneries, with pristine waters, lush green rain forests, lava deserts, and active volcanoes.  The island continues to grow in size as the molten lava from the Kilauea Volcano streams into the ocean 4,000 feet below.  The Big Island also offers a rich exhibition of native Hawaiian artifacts and ritual places built by the ancient residents.  The island is divided into two halves; the Kona Coast and the Hilo Coast.  The Kona Coast has 14 known climate zones, from desert lavascapes to tropical rain forests to beaches to snow on the peaks of 13,000 foot volcanoes.  Hilo, on the wet side, is the island's major city while Kona on the dry side is the most popular destination. Total area is 4,038 sq. miles - 93 miles long and 76 miles wide with 266 miles of coastline.
